A Message from Jason Smith

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that I will be stepping down as Executive Director of BPFNA~Bautistas por la Paz. I will be taking a remote position in philanthropy with the organization Faith in Public Life beginning in October. Rev. Luz Chagüendo Ospina, incoming board president, has published a message on next steps in this transition.

My journey with this organization, both as a member of the board and as part of the staff, has been one of growth, resilience, and commitment to the work of peacemaking. Together, we’ve navigated the challenges of the pandemic and have worked tirelessly to strengthen and reestablish our network. And this past year at peace camp solidified for me that BPFNA is resilient, and our small community of peacemakers continues to be strong and dedicated.

Over the past year, my personal life has also undergone significant changes, and I have determined that I can no longer fulfill the responsibilities of this leadership role while also being fully present for and providing for my family. This decision has not been easy, but it is one I must make with the well-being of my four children front and center.

Please know that my deep affection for this organization and my unwavering commitment to the work of peacemaking remain unchanged. I will be working closely with the Board of Directors and the Personnel Committee to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition during this time.

I also want to express my gratitude to the incredible team at BPFNA~Bautistas por la Paz—Erica, Ruben, Set, and Ximena. Their dedication and support have been a source of inspiration and energy for me, and I hope you will join me in supporting and praying for their continued success.

I will continue to pray for and support this organization's ongoing success and impact in any way I can. As I step away, I do so with profound gratitude for the work we have accomplished together and with great optimism for the future.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your witness, your vision, and your tireless energy. I still believe our world is indeed moving in a positive direction, and I am honored to have been a part of this journey with you for this time.
