Hope in Cuba for Advent & Christmas

In recent days we have lived through dark times. Fear and desperation are abundant, leading us to believe that things aren’t going well. But with trust in God, problems diminish. They give us the strength to face evil and overcome it with prayer, action and common sense. God accompanies us in every moment to make us notice when we need help from other people. It may not come for various reasons, but in Jesus Christ we know that God does not abandon us in the events of communal life and faith. God surpasses the limits of our capacity to understand. As theologian Jurgen Moltmann says in his Theology of Hope, “If we had before our eyes only what we see, then we would accept things as they are, happy or sad. But let us not accept that a friendly harmony between us and reality won’t come; it must, due to the Hope of the Impossible.” Every sibling does what it is possible to be peaceful according to their reality. As an agent of peace in dark times. God gives us the faith to discern when things aren’t going well and, above all, when the Lord acts in his children’s favor, knowing that a future is about to arrive.

A hope for Advent and Christmas becomes reality by our testimony of faith. We are capable of facing reality, knowing that God invites us to be better accompanied in a better world. We are waiting with hope and faith in Jesus Christ.

To walk as a people is always slow. Everyone knows that the path is long and difficult, like that foundational experience of God’s people in the desert. Weariness and confusion strengthen us. To pray and accompany each other in difficult moments is based in hope. It strengthens our testimony of faith to know that God walked with his people and promises us salvation in a future based in the faith of Christ. When we reach salvation, there are those who have made us go through so much work. When we reach salvation, there are those who have prevented our faith from walking along with the people. When we reach salvation, we are sure that, in hope, the new dawn will overtake our lives.

May the God of new opportunities continue to bless you.
